Un poco de historia

La Plaza de Paulo originalmente llamada Plaza Comunitaria Port Chester, inicio sus servicios en octubre 2010 con alfabetización solamente.

​

Nuestra misión es la sirvir a la comunidad de Port Chester promoviendo la educación en español a toda persona adulta que le interese seguir aprendiendo y superandose. Se propone brindar las herramientas necesarias para poder ser independientes en todos los aspectos de la vida.

​

Nuestra visión consiste en empoderar a la comunidad adulta, con el aprendizaje del inglés, español, computación, equivalencia del bachillerato con el propósito de ayudarles a que se incorporen al mercado laboral en mejores condiciones de competitividad.

​

Pretendemos ser un centro que se enriquezca con la diversidad cultural que los mismos miembros aportamos y entregamos al lugar.​

​

La plaza comunitaria tuvo diferentes ubicaciones estuvimos aproximadamente 5 años en 22 Don Bosco place en Port Chester. Le agradecemos profundamente al padre Tim y al padre Pat por su amabilidad y generosidad al dejarnos utilizar sus instalaciones. Actualmente nos encontramos en Knights of Columbus, 327 Westchester Ave.

Hace siete años iniciamos el programa de inglés (ESL). El origen de este programa se debe Julia, una estudiante de la Escuela Sagrado Corazón me escribió un correo pidiendo dar clases en la plaza comunitaria. En ese tiempo no teníamos clases de ESL y nos pareció una gran oportunidad dar inicio a estas clases. Al año siguiente contamos con el apoyo de otra estudiante.

Hace cinco años iniciamos clases de computación. 

​

Actualmente contamos con 6 tutoras y el programa de HSE (High School Equivalency) manejado en  colaboración con BOCES.

En un futuro cercano contaremos con clases de ciudadanía.

A little history

​

La Plaza de Paulo originally called Plaza Comunitaria Port Chester, began its services in October 2010 with Spanish literacy only.

​

Our mission is to serve the community of Port Chester by promoting education in Spanish to all adults who are interested in continuing to learn and improve themselves. It aims to provide the necessary tools to be independent in all aspects of life.

​

Our vision is to empower the adult community, with the learning of English, Spanish literacy, computers, high school equivalency with the purpose of helping them to join the labor market in better competitive conditions.

​

We intend to be a center that is enriched by the cultural diversity that the members themselves contribute and deliver to the place.

​

The plaza comunitaria had different locations. We spent approximately 7 years at 22 Don Bosco place in Port Chester. We are deeply grateful to Father Tim and Father Pat for their kindness and generosity in letting us use their facilities. We are currently located at the Knights of Columbus, 327 Westchester Ave.

Seven years ago we started the English (ESL) program. The origin of this program is due to Julia, a student from the Sagrado Corazón School, who wrote me an email asking me to teach in the plaza comunitaria. At that time we did not have ESL classes and it seemed like a great opportunity to start these classes. The following year we had the support of another student.

Five years ago we started computer classes.

​

We currently have 6 tutors and the HSE (High School Equivalency) program managed in collaboration with BOCES.

In the near future we will have citizenship classes.
